Front Tow Hooks

The stock tow hook was replaced with a generic three hole forged tow hook available for less than $10 at most 4WD shops.  Some people have said they had problems getting the hook to fit just right because one of the holes was a few millimeters off, but I didn't have that problem.

On the passenger side the frame has nuts welded inside that you can screw bolts into but the driver side just has holes, you have to supply your own bolts and nuts.  But the hole in the frame you to get things in place isn't very big so it's a pain to install.  The best way to do it is to drop the bolt down through the frame instead of trying to send the bolt up into the nut, but you need a way to get the bolt back out if you drop it into the frame.  I tied a string around the bolt with a slipknot for quick release, so one end of the thread would pull the bolt out, the other would release the knot and let me take the thread out and leave the bolt in.  After a few tries I had both bolt in and I was able to get the hook and nuts on.

Then I had a new problem, the bolt was spinning inside the frame when I was trying to tighten it.  The only way to fix it was trial and error, I was able to get one to catch by holding the bolt head with one finger through the frame.  The other caught by using the ratchet like an impact wrench, twist it fast and one of the times it held enough that it was able to be tightened.
