Offroad Lights

I spent alot of time thinking what lights I wanted for the Xterra, I was pretty much set on KC brand lights but I needed to know which type of lights would be best. Different lights throw different beam patterns; fog lights throw low wide beams, driving lights throw a long range beam above a low wide beam, long range lights throw a long range beam.
I eventually settled with two Long Range lights and two Flood lights. The Long Range lights are 155watt sealed beam Daylighters that throw a pencil beam straight forward. The Flood lights throw a 135 degree beam forward of the lights, the way mine are aimed the throw a 200 degree arc the overlaps in the middle. Having the lights mounted up high on the vehicle help throw the light further since it's less likely to be obstructed by terrain and less likely to be hit by terrain. That's also the reason I didn't get driving lights or fog lights, both driving and fog lights are designed to be used at the same level as the headlights. The Floods and Sealed beams throw beams that aren't directional, one is a narrow beam the other is a wide beam.
