On and Off-Board Air

CO2 tanks have many benefits over onboard air and few drawbacks. First is how much cheaper they are; I got a deal through a friend for mine so I didn't have to spend more than $100 for mine. But even getting ripped off by Powertank™ at $200-$300 you still come in hundreds of dollars lower than a simple onboard air system. The Second bennefit is that the CO2 is quicker, in the time it took for an ARB air compressor to do 3 tires Chris's CO2 tank did 4 Xterras (16 tires). Plus you need to build up pressure to seat a bead on a rim with the onboard air, the CO2 is always at the pressure set on your regulator (between 20-120 psi).
The only drawback is that you need to occasionally refill the CO2 tank, but since you can do upwards of 100 tires on one tank and the refills are only $11 bucks it's a small price to pay.
Some people say they don't want a compressed gas bomb going off in their vehicles, but the CO2 is stored as a liquid, only the top of the tank is evaporated gas at 600 psi. So if you broke the valve off the tank which is no easy task in itself, the 600 psi would shoot out but then the CO2 would just boil off safely, the only concern would be suffocating on CO2 if you're inside your Xterra. And heat makes no difference to the tank, even in 100 degree desert heat the psi only gets up to 1000 and if you have a quality tank it should be rated at well over 3200 psi, a hefty safety margin.
